Why We Built This Site
Virginia does not place every part of a criminal history in one public system. The Carroll County Sheriff's Office keeps records created by that agency, while New River Valley Regional Jail maintains its official current and released inmate lookup. General District and Circuit Court clerks control their own case files and dispositions. The Virginia Department of State Police maintains the CCRE fingerprint-supported repository and the public registry, and the Virginia Department of Corrections covers state custody. We built this resource to sort those boundaries and present researched request steps, contacts, fees, and official links.
What You Will Find Here
- Agency contacts: where Carroll County court, sheriff, jail, and Virginia record custodians can be reached
- Court record guidance: how to find and read Carroll County criminal court cases across both trial-court levels
- Official record checks: how the mailed VSP SP-167 route and fingerprint-supported self-review differ
- Record relief information: where Virginia expungement and sealing rules direct eligible petitions and records
What We Cannot Do
This is a privately run reference site, not part of Carroll County, a Virginia court, or any law-enforcement agency. Those boundaries limit what we can provide:
- We cannot issue certified court papers, CCRE records, or agency reports
- We cannot submit a VFOIA request, sealing petition, expungement filing, or other form for a reader
- We cannot retrieve a person's official criminal history or perform an official record check
- We cannot give legal advice about a Carroll County charge, disposition, or eligibility for relief
- We cannot promise that a government office's hours, fee, or procedure has not changed
Only the Carroll County or Virginia office that maintains a record can issue its official or certified copy. Our role is limited to routing readers to that source.
Search Partners
Search boxes on some pages are operated by outside providers. Each provider controls its own service, results, and price. A paid signup reached through one of those tools may produce a referral fee that helps support free access to this resource. We do not set the provider's charges, compile its results, or treat those results as official Carroll County or Virginia records.
